Navigating AI Development: An Intro from a Veteran Software Developer
Ha, serendipity - I just joined the community & came here to write a short intro - I'm from Ireland too - an old S/W dev guy who was out of the industry when the PC revolution started so mostly mainframe & miniciomputer experience. Not up to speed with modern languages but wanted to dabble with AI dev. Tried lots in the last month & all remiinded me of very enthusiastic puppy dogs with excess energy but no sense. They launch into "doing things" often not what youy want & often after forgetting the context of the app being developed - yes, I've been writing PRDs and using detailed propting but still they go off the rails, often. The really frustrating thing is they all do this again & again, apologising profusely when your point out their stupid errors & promising they will never do that again but "here's the definitive fix" etc. And when that "fix" fails again & again, I'll admit I became abusive & told Gemini tht it wasn't a code partner & to retire itself back to Google for redevelopment but with some choice expelitves thrown in. Don't know if others resonate with this. So far, Lindy is the only one that sticks to the task & I don't have to constantly bring it back on track. What really impresses me is that it tests if the functions of the app are working & the console is looking like it should, etc. Far better than going down many technical AI generated rabbit holes and afer many hours when you get something that is error free, finding that the screen is a complete mess
